Cheryl A. Krause-Parello, Ph.D., associate vice president for research at Ģtvҳ, has received a Fulbright United States Scholar Program award from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for the Germany International Education Administrators Program (academic year 2025-26).
Krause-Parello will conduct her studies in Germany where she will explore their research and educational systems, with a focus on how universities are funded and how they support research. She will visit research universities and universities of applied sciences to gain insight into both theoretical and applied approaches to education.
“I am incredibly honored to receive this Fulbright scholarship, which will enable me to bring back knowledge that will benefit Ģtvҳ, particularly by expanding student and faculty exchanges, including a current partnership with SRH University Heidelberg,” said Krause-Parello. “Importantly, I plan to build stronger transatlantic partnerships and create new opportunities for faculty and postdoctoral research exchange.”
While in Germany, Krause-Parello also plans to connect with the Max Planck Society to learn about their research models and explore potential collaborations with FAU’s existing relationship with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience in Jupiter.
“Dr. Krause-Parello’s selection for the Fulbright U.S. Germany International Education Administrators Award is a prestigious honor that reflects her exceptional leadership in research and international collaboration,” said Gregg Fields, Ph.D., FAU vice president for research. “Her work will not only strengthen Ģtvҳ’s global partnerships, but also create new opportunities for our students, faculty and postdoctoral researchers. This award underscores FAU’s commitment to impactful, interdisciplinary research with worldwide reach.”
Fulbright U.S. scholars are faculty, researchers, administrators and established professionals teaching or conducting research in affiliation with institutes abroad. They engage in cutting-edge research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for forging future partnerships between institutions. Upon returning to their home countries, institutions, labs and classrooms, they share their stories and often become active supporters of international exchange, inviting foreign scholars to campus and encouraging colleagues and students to go abroad.
As associate vice president for research at FAU, Krause-Parello oversees research efforts across multiple campuses, supports entrepreneurship and corporate partnerships, and leads interdisciplinary research initiatives. She also directs FAU’s Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, mentoring postdocs and advancing international collaboration.
Krause-Parello also serves as the associate executive director of FAU’s Institute for Human Health and Disease Intervention, established to advance health through pioneering research and practical applications. I-Health is transforming health care infrastructure to deliver innovative programs for both everyday and specialized care, with a focus on aging populations and services unavailable elsewhere in the region. She helps drive initiatives that train and support faculty, students and health care professionals in addressing the various health needs of Florida’s communities.
Krause-Parello earned a Ph.D. in nursing from Rutgers University and has more than 24 years of experience in higher education as faculty, an administrator and a researcher. She is the founder of C-P.A.W.W.®, a university-based health initiative supporting military members, veterans and their families through research on human-animal interaction.
Recognized globally, Krause-Parello was named a 2023 International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame Honoree and is a past-president of the International Society of Anthrozoology.
