Description
The Truman Scholarship supports students who plan to pursue a career in public service* and plan to further their education beyond their Bachelor's degree. This prestigious award offers up to $30,000 towards the graduate degree of a student looking to go into public service in some capacity, and comes with opportunities to attend the Truman Scholars Leadership Week, an eight week summer institute in Washington D.C., and to access additional mentorship, fellowships, and internships.
*Public service means employment in: government at any level, the uniformed services, public interest organizations, non-governmental research and/or educational organizations, public and private schools, and public service oriented non-profit organizations such as those whose primary purposes are to help needy or disadvantaged persons or to protect the environment." - Harry S. Truman Scholars typically:
- Have demonstrated leadership experience
- Have an extensive record of campus or community service involvement
- Want to be a “change agent” (i.e., a clear commitment to making their community a better place)
- Have a strong GPA

Scholarship Timeline
Deadline to indicate interest in applying through the Office of Prestigious Fellowships. Students must also be nominated by a faculty or staff member through Florida Atlantic's . | September 2025 |
Deadline for first draft of completed application, including the online questionnaire, three letters of recommendation, and at least one writing consultation with the UCEW. | December 2025 |
Florida Atlantic nominees selected by Office of Prestigious Fellowships and internal review committee. | December 2025 |
